Building to a designer's brief
The owner here is an interior designer, so the drawings and finishes were all decided before we started. Our job was to build it precisely, without "improving" anything on the quiet. That suits us. We'd much rather follow a clear spec than guess.
What we did
- Took out two load-bearing walls and a chimney breast, with two new steel beams designed by our structural engineer
- Formed a new open-plan kitchen-diner
- Rewired and re-plumbed the house, with a new boiler and underfloor heating
- Re-plastered throughout
- New joinery, skirting, architrave and internal doors
- White gloss kitchen with granite worktops
- 18mm engineered oak flooring laid over the underfloor heating
Start to finish, it took 18 weeks.
